Redmi Buds 8 Pro VS Realme Buds Air 8 Pro Review – Comparing Two New Products of 2026

Redmi Buds 8 Pro or Realme Buds Air 8 Pro? Which 8 Pro is better? You will find all the answers in this review, friends.

This is already the third try to find good sound in Redmi Pro earbuds. The 5th generation in 2023 looked good compared to rivals, just like the basic Redmi 5. The 6 Pro was worse than the 5 Pro, and the whole 6th generation was one big disappointment, with few exceptions. You can find a review comparing the entire 6th generation on MyChooz. One question bothered me: did Redmi finally get serious and improve quality to a competitive level, or is it just another average product for its price?

Redmi Buds 8 Pro Review

Redmi decided to skip the 7th generation and catch up with their main earbud rivals, Realme, at least in numbers. At least, it is easy to confuse Redmi Buds 8 Pro and Realme Buds Air 8 Pro because their names are similar. Maybe the marketing team bet on this to attract potential buyers who were waiting for the full release of Realme Buds Air 8 Pro.

Redmi Buds 8 Pro are wireless in-ear earbuds from 2026. At the time of this review, the price ranges from $60 to $130. You can get the earbuds for $50-55 on AliExpress sales with coupons and coins.

Redmi Buds 8 Pro driver

The sound system has 3 drivers, just like the last generation: one 11 mm dynamic driver and two 6.7 mm piezoelectric ceramic drivers. One difference is the dual DAC for lows and highs.

Codecs. It has the LDAC codec, which really improves sound quality. However, the codec does not work well; even with adaptive bitrate, the signal drops, and the sound changes in tone (this happens when the bitrate changes).

Source. When I tested the earbuds on two different sources, the sound was better on Snapdragon 870: the volume was 10-15% louder, and the sound was clearer and more detailed. On a budget source with MediaTek Helio G99, the volume was lower, and the sound was worse: less clear and less detailed.

Version differences. This review covers the global version of the earbuds. The global version of the earbuds has LDAC as the main codec, while the Chinese version has LHDC 5.0 and MIHC 2.0 (MI High Clarity Codec). The Chinese version has longer playback time: 8.5/35 hours compared to 8/33 hours.

The volume of the Redmi Buds 8 Pro is 80% enough with MediaTek, and comfortable at 65-70% with Snapdragon. If you need more volume, here is how to increase it.

img 3852
Frequency balance. 7.58 The Redmi Buds 8 Pro deliver a bass-heavy sound, with recessed mids and moderate highs.
Lows. 8 This is a strong point of the model, they clearly stand out, but not too much. Because of them, the sound has good rhythm and does not get tiring. However, it does not quite reach the level of the Realme 7 Pro, by a lot or by 1 point.
For quantity, bassheads might even find it a bit lacking, but for everyone else, it is just right.
For quality, the timbre of low-frequency instruments is clear, even if it is a bit smeared. But overall, the quality is satisfactory.
Examples: Lenny Kravitz β€” Low, the bass is recognizable and clear, but in terms of quality and quantity, it is much worse than the Realme Buds Air 7 Pro/8 Pro (the 7 Pro and 8 Pro are equal in bass).
The sub-bass test is not passed: in AWOLNATION – Sail, you do not physically feel the kick drum, there is sound, but there is no clear sound wave, like with the Realme Buds Air 7 Pro/8 Pro or Huawei FreeBuds 4 Pro.
Mids. 7 The mids are recessed, and they are lacking, you feel the vocals are closed-in, the singer sounds like they are somewhere else, not in front of you. You hear this especially in Oasis – Dont Go Away, Liam sounds like he is in the next room. It is not all bad, but it clearly lacks clarity.
Highs. 7.75 The highs do not stand out much, there are enough of them overall, and they are quite balanced. Highs separation is average, and so are their quality and natural timbre. Examples: Daft Punk – Lose Yourself to Dance – there are enough highs, but they are quite dull, cymbals do not sound bright, and they lack natural timbre and airiness.
Detail retrieval. 6.75 You hear the main parts of the sound very well. Secondary parts start to blend together. If you take the song Oasis – Dont Go Away – the electric guitar and background synth all get messy in the background, especially in the choruses. Third-level sounds, tails, reverbs, and effects mostly get lost.
Natural timbre. 7 The natural timbre of bass instruments is average, the texture of the bass guitar and double bass is clear, but weak, you really need to listen closely (Lenny Kravitz β€” Low). The natural timbre of high-frequency instruments – they lack natural brightness, everything is quite dull and short, but at least there is no clear artificial sound. This is probably because they do not stand out (Oasis – Dont Go Away).
Soundstage. 6.5 They play wider than your head, detail retrieval is not amazing, it is average, but not bad either. Instrument placement is more or less there. The 3D effect is weak, but it is there. Everything is close together. Test in the song Michael Jackson – Man in the Mirror.

Sound verdict

Sound. 6.96 The strong point of the Redmi Buds 8 Pro sound is the lows, they are punchy, with a clear structure, and the sound has good rhythm. This is pretty much the only strong point. The mids are recessed otherwise. The highs are quite dull, even if they are not recessed. Detail retrieval is average, and natural timbre also has its issues. The soundstage is a bit narrow, not terrible, but for $65 you expect results at least like the basic Realme 8. In the end, this is normal sound, like a typical $50-60 model, in the MyChooz wood league, and it did not quite reach the bronze league.

Redmi Buds 8 Pro - comparison with a competitor

The comparison will be short. In terms of sound, the Redmi Buds 8 Pro lost to Realme models: Realme Buds Air 8 Pro, Realme Buds Air 8, and Realme Buds Air 7 Pro. The Redmi Buds 8 Pro are in the MyChooz bronze league with 7-8 points. Realme is in the silver league with 8-9 points. The Realme Buds Air 8 Pro, Realme Buds Air 8, and Realme Buds Air 7 Pro almost reach the gold league.

Are Redmi the best in features? They are a bit better in some ways, like the microphone and ANC. They are worse in some ways, like transparency and controls. The features are more or less on the same level as Realme.

Are Redmi the best in build quality? No. The earbuds are good for comfort, but in terms of ergonomics, they are less comfortable than any of the three Realme models we looked at.

MyChooz picks the Realme Buds Air 7 Pro here if we look at models under $100. The basic Realme Buds Air 8 for $45 are still better than the Redmi Buds 8 Pro.

And also, comparing them with the previous Redmi Buds 6 Pro, I do not have the model with me right now. But from what I remember, there is definitely an improvement in sound. The company is moving in the right direction, but it is very slow and has not caught up with competitors yet.

We compare them with competitors by price: Redmi Buds 8 Pro vs Realme Buds Air 8 and Realme Buds Air 8 Pro.

More details

We compare them with reference models: Redmi Buds 8 Pro vs Realme Buds Air 7 Pro and OnePlus Buds 4.

More details
Redmi Buds 8 Pro microphone. 8.75 In quiet conditions: 9.5 In noisy conditions: 8
πŸ‘‘ Reference-quality microphone Huawei Freebuds Pro 4. 8.50 In quiet conditions: 9.5 In noisy conditions: 10
Active Noise Cancellation. 7.75 It is good quality, claimed up to -55 dB, and supports active noise cancellation with one earbud. Outdoors, the 7.5/10 active noise cancellation adds good comfort near the road or on public transport.

Indoors, the 8/10 depth of cancellation is enough to quiet air conditioner and fan noise and completely block laptop or PC fan noise. Pressure on eardrums is minimal, and white noise is minimal. In the settings, you can choose an enhanced mode and smart noise blocking; these algorithms give more comfort and accuracy, but with a small drop in depth.
Transparency Mode. 6 It is active. It minimally boosts your surroundings. Your own voice sounds like it is in your head. The best conditions are only with the ‘voice enhancement’ mode. Still, for comfortable talking, it is better to take off the earbuds.
Battery Life. 8 It is claimed for the global version: 8 hours for the earbuds and 33 hours with the charging case using the AAC codec. Playback time is confirmed in our tests. The Chinese version has 8.5 and 35 hours, respectively. There is no fast charging.
More details.
Controls. 6.5 The touch controls have 10 actions for both earbuds. You can swipe to change the volume. There are only 4 actual actions, including a double action for track skipping and volume. The accuracy is solid, but sometimes you miss on double and triple taps. You hear a sound when it works. Often, pause and play happen 2 seconds after you touch them.
More details.
The app. 9 You can download Xiaomi Earbuds for AndroidΒ andΒ iOS. The app has settings for your environment, controls, and sound, including a 10-band EQ. The app is easy to use and does not have too many extra features.
More details.
Connection stability. 7 Within 10m, the signal is stable with basic codecs. With the LDAC codec and adaptive bitrate, the signal drops at a distance of 1 meter. Bluetooth version 5.4.

Important features and sensors:

  • Multipoint – yes.
  • Auto-pause when you take off the earbuds – yes.
  • Support for Google Fast Pair – yes.
  • Support for Swift Pair for Windows – yes.
Redmi Buds 8 Pro - features

Functions verdict

Features. 7.75 The Redmi Buds 8 Pro has good quality and matches the $60-70 price. Strong points. Active noise cancellation blocks noise well. Battery life matches what they say for the Chinese version: 8.5 hours for the earbuds and 35 hours with the charging case. The app is reference-quality, it is easy to use, and has all useful features. Weak points. Transparency mode is not comfortable, you want to take off the earbuds to talk. Touch controls are solid, but sometimes double and triple taps do not register. The LDAC connection often drops, even with adaptive bitrate.
Comfort. 8 The earbuds are light. With the included ear tips, minor fatigue appears after the second hour of use. The charging case size is 61 x 48.2 x 24.9 mm, which is similar to most other wireless earbuds.
Durability. 7 The dust and water resistance rating is IP54. They can handle light water splashes. There are no build defects. The materials are solid, the plastic looks normal, but it does not fall apart in your hands. However, the glossy finish easily picks up dust, fingerprints, and scratches. After a couple of walks with the earbuds in your pocket, you can see a dozen small scratches on them.

Design. 7 The Redmi Buds 8 Pro come in black, white, and blue. The earbuds look solid, and there is nothing unusual or unique about their design. They look like budget Ugreen earbuds.

Build verdict

Build quality. 7.33 The earbuds are comfortable with the included ear tips. The build quality and materials are good, but the glossy plastic is a fingerprint magnet and scratches easily. The earbuds look solid, and you can choose from 3 colors.

Redmi Buds 8 Pro vs realme

Are the Redmi Buds 8 Pro MyChooz or not? I used the earbuds for about 2 weeks. I took them to the gym, made calls on Telegram or by phone, and listened to music. If you look at the model by itself, it is a solid model for its price. But everything is known by comparison, and the answer of MyChooz or not is a simple yes or no.

And my answer is no. These are not MyChooz. They have average sound, average features, and average build quality when compared to Realme competitors. If I had to choose between even the basic Realme Buds Air 8 for $45, I would pick them, not to mention the Realme Buds Air 7 Pro, which I recommend. The Realme Buds Air 8 Pro are better than the Redmi but worse than the Realme 7 Pro.

Reasons to buy:
  • Solid sound for their price after tuning with the EQ
  • The active noise cancellation is enough to suppress noise outside and in the office.
  • Immersive transport mode
  • Top-tier microphone in quiet conditions
Reasons not to buy:
  • The out-of-the-box sound quickly causes fatigue, the mids are a bit muddy, and the soundstage is narrow.
  • The LDAC codec regularly has dropouts.
  • Bad transparency mode.

Besides the active noise cancellation and the microphone, there is no reason to buy Redmi Buds 8 Pro. The sound is not comfortable, the battery life is average, and it does not have interesting features like triple multipoint or a translator. Even HAYLOU Flowbuds N55, with a price difference of 2.5-3 times, sound more interesting after a firmware update, and they are equal in active noise cancellation depth. At a price of $20-30, you can seriously discuss buying Redmi earbuds if your budget is very limited. For $50-70, definitely not, because for that money, there are better models. But some sellers on AliExpress manage to ask for Redmi Buds 8 Pro for $155.

What are the alternatives?

  • HAYLOU Flowbuds N55. Better sound and battery life. It is important to update the firmware to the latest version and turn on the basic EQ preset in the app.
  • Realme Buds Air 7 Pro. Better in all ways: sound and features.
  • Realme Buds Air 8. Better in all ways: sound and features. Lower price.
  • Realme Buds Air 8 Pro. Better sound with detail retrieval and natural timbre, but the soundstage is a bit worse. After the earbuds are released, they could potentially be even better in sound. Better features: translator, battery life, voice assistant.

Use cases for Redmi Buds 8 Pro. Street, gaming, calls – yes. For sports – no. For audiophiles – no.
