The 15 Best Open-Ear Earbuds of 2026: Ranked and Reviewed

The search for the best open ear earbuds of 2026 is finally over. Whether you call them half in ear earbuds, semi in ear earbuds, or open-fit — this is the definitive ranking. After three years of intensive testing and reviewing over 20 different pairs, I’ve put every model in its rightful place — from the absolute king of sound to budget picks that don’t feel cheap.

Why Trust This Ranking? (The Transparency Policy)

Let’s get one thing straight: this is a 100% independent review. Unlike many big tech sites, every single pair of earbuds on this list was bought with my own money. MyChooz is not a store—it’s a project built on honest, hands-on experience. I’m not here to “sell” you anything; I’m here to make sure you don’t waste your cash.

Solving the “Pain”: Why Open-Fit?

If you’re here, you’re likely tired of ear fatigue. Traditional in-ear monitors with silicone tips create invasive ear canal pressure that makes long listening sessions a nightmare. This is where the open-fit design shines — sometimes called air conduction earbuds because they sit outside the ear canal, delivering natural timbre and perfect situational awareness without the “plugged-ear” sensation. The trade-off? Some sound leakage at higher volumes. But what you get in return is worth it: all-day comfort, touch controls, multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, customizable EQ via companion apps, and even low latency gaming modes on many models. Most pairs here also come with decent call quality microphones and an IPX water resistance rating for workouts. If you love the way standard AirPods feel, this list is for you.

Methodology: How We Score

To keep things objective, I use a strict 100-point scoring system. No fluff, just data:

Sound Quality50%Frequency balance, soundstage width, and detail retrieval.
Features37.5%ANC performance, app support, and battery life.
Design & Comfort12.5%Ergonomics, build materials, and “stay-put” factor.

Battery life: ?

Headphone battery life is the playback time without recharging, measured in hours. Manufacturers measure without active noise cancellation (ANC), at medium volume (50-70%) and usually with ANC codec, as these parameters affect battery consumption. Actual time may vary from 1% to 50%, depending on volume, active noise cancellation features enabled, codec (LDAC or other) and environmental conditions (cold, hot). It is important to consider not only the claimed playback time, but also the charging time and fast charging support.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Black Case Opened

Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 are the best semi-in-ear earbuds of 2026 — both by the sum of all criteria and for sound alone. They work for Samsung as well as iPhone and Android. Think of these buds as a workhorse with an open fit: home, the street, the gym, work. A universal pick, with one caveat — a weak mic. The main downside lives in Samsung’s ecosystem: the top SSC codec that shapes sound detail, plus a handful of useful features, only unlock on a Samsung device. It’s not critical, since you still get pleasant, detailed sound on any source with the basic AAC or SBC codecs — and even then it’s #1. Pairing with a Samsung phone is more of a bonus than a limit.

Sound. 8.13 The main strengths of the sound are the wide soundstage and intimate, emotional vocals; these are the earbuds’ strong points. Another strength is the engagement; this sound doesn’t get tiring, you want to listen for hours. There are no obvious weak points. But there are just average criteria – the bass is balanced and not powerful enough. The highs are moderate with weak naturalness. Overall, the naturalness and detail retrieval are average. But considering the open-fit design, this is the best sound today based on all parameters. 80-90% volume is enough, there’s less headroom than I’d like, but it’s comfortable to listen to.
More details.
Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Microphone. 7.00 In quiet conditions: 7 In noisy conditions: 7 It hasn’t noticeably changed in overall quality compared to the buds 3 version. The microphone quality is below average for the market, especially in noisy conditions – it’s better to switch to your phone, but in quiet conditions, you can have a comfortable conversation.

Features. 7.58 Functionally, the earbuds are strong in noise cancellation for open-fit earbuds, and they also have a reference transparency mode. Good controls with up and down swipes for volume and squeezing the stem to control the player, ANC/transparency, and calls. There’s an app for Android, but not for iOS. Stable connection with Bluetooth version 6.1. Battery life is 5-6 hours for the earbuds themselves, on the lower end of the standard. Other weak points: no control customization and maximum features only with flagship Samsung devices – translator, spatial audio, multipoint, etc.
More details.
Build quality. 8.83 The earbuds are comfortable to use, small, and light. The fit is comfortable in Vladimir Papazov’s tests. In Alexander Moiseenko’s tests, there was discomfort if the earbud’s sound tube pressed into the base of the ear canal. The build quality is solid and reliable. The only downsides are the reduced dust and water resistance from IP57 to IP54, and the fingerprint-prone glossy finish. The earbuds look good, better than the 3rd generation.

Reasons to buy:
  • Balanced sound with an emphasis on the mid-range.
  • Top-tier transparency and noise cancellation among open-fit earbuds.
  • Samsung ecosystem: translator, spatial audio, seamless switching, etc.
Reasons not to buy:
  • Maximum sound quality only with Samsung flagships.
  • Key ecosystem features only with flagships.
  • No dedicated app for iOS.

Huawei FreeBuds 6

Huawei FreeBuds 6 — the best-sounding open-fit earbuds under $120, our solid number two if Samsung isn’t your thing. More bass and highs than Samsung, but a tighter sound with less space and stage. The main downside — not a dealbreaker — is that some features only work on Huawei phones with HarmonyOS: the proprietary L2HC codec, translator, voice assistant, and so on.

Sound. 7.98 Top-tier sound like Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 – it’s just different here, bright, narrow, precise. Great out-of-the-box sound. With the LDAC codec, we get up to a 20% sound boost. The main sound pros are excellent naturalness and detail, pleasant bass. Musical instruments and vocals sound clean, with almost no artificiality and no embellishment. The main sound con is the lack of soundstage scale, the sound is quite closed-in and narrow, you want more space. In tracks with lots of percussion or highs, the sound is harsh and often tiring. EQ tuning is needed.

Features. 8.11 The active noise cancellation is good for open-fit earbuds. There’s no transparency mode. But you can still talk freely without taking the earbuds off. Battery life is excellent: up to 6 hours of playback. You get up to 36 hours with the charging case. The touch controls are convenient, but you’ll need to get used to them. The app is great. I recommend choosing the LDAC codec and tuning the EQ there.
More details.
Build quality. 8.17 The earbuds are barely noticeable in your ears from the first few minutes of use. Only after 2 hours does minor fatigue set in. Durability is excellent; after a year, the model looks like new. The design is peculiar, but it looks better in person than in photos.

Reasons to buy:
  • Best sound among open-fit earbuds.
  • Reference-quality microphone.
  • Good noise cancellation for open-fit earbuds.
Reasons not to buy:
  • The sound is too bright on some tracks.
  • Not critical: There’s no transparency mode. Also, the L2HC 4.0 codec and many proprietary features are only available on HarmonyOS 4.3+ and Huawei devices.

Apple AirPods 4 ANC

Apple AirPods 4 ANC are the best open-fit earbuds for iPhone and Apple devices. You get good sound, Spatial Audio, and Adaptive EQ. Good battery life, a solid mic, and active noise cancellation. They work with Android too, but like Samsung and Huawei, there’s an ecosystem tax. Some features won’t be available — Siri, the app, EQ settings, Spatial Audio, and more.

Sound rating. 7.56 Among open-fit earbuds, this is top-tier sound. It’s soft, full, enveloping, and comfortable, letting you relax and get lost in your favorite music. I really liked the sound. If we compare it to the current reference, the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4, or the previous Huawei FreeBuds 6, the sound in those models wins by a small margin. The main strength of the sound is its fullness and overall harmony; the sound is soft and pleasant, you don’t get tired of it, and it draws you in. The main weakness of the sound is that the naturalness could be better, and the vocals could be closer. However, this isn’t a critical issue.

Features. 8.00 Noise cancellation is at a reference level for open-fit earbuds, as if they were in-ear earbuds. An UNBELIEVABLE level. Transparency mode is perfect, a reference level, as if you weren’t wearing earbuds. Battery life is weak, 5h 30m without ANC, 4 hours 20m with ANC – that’s not much. Controls are convenient, with a stem pinch, but there’s no volume control (swipes). The app is excellent, for iOS, but there isn’t one for Android.
More details.
Build quality. 9.33 They’re super comfortable. I can wear them for 2-3 hours without discomfort. Durability is fine, but the earbuds scratch VERY easily. The design is Apple-style and looks great. The charging case is the SMALLEST I’ve ever seen. The earbuds themselves are tiny. No issues with the build quality.
More details.
Reasons to buy:
  • The sound is soft and musical. It’s top-tier for open-fit earbuds.
  • The microphone quality is excellent.
  • The active noise cancellation and transparency mode are the best among open-fit earbuds.
  • The build quality is comfortable and good-looking.
Reasons not to buy:
  • There’s no volume control.
  • The app is only available on iOS. Android gets limited features.
  • Battery life is only 4 hours with ANC. You get 20 hours total with the charging case.
  • Minor drawbacks: the glossy finish scratches quickly, and no cable is included.

Huawei FreeBuds 5

Huawei Freebuds 5 are the best open-fit earbuds for Android under $80. In 2026 the price dropped, and for the money this is the best sound you can get. The earbuds came out in 2023 and are still relevant. Sound and mic are close to reference level, and a couple of hours of use causes no discomfort.

Sound. 8.01 With the LDAC codec, the sound gets up to 30% better. The earbuds have an emphasis on bass, a slightly recessed mid-range, and muted highs. I didn’t notice any outright artificial sound, with minimal grain. The sound is spacious and full, with good instrument separation in the soundstage. Detail retrieval is good, but it’s harder to make out instrument textures compared to top models. It lacks expressive sound, a bit of brightness and airiness, without which this sound quickly gets boring. Some of the drawbacks can be compensated for with EQ tuning.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 3

Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 are the best open-fit earbuds for Samsung phones under $100 — for sound and features. The main reasons to buy: a proprietary codec with 24-bit/96 kHz audio and Samsung-exclusive features — simultaneous translator, voice assistant, Adaptive ANC, and EQ. These earbuds make most sense paired with a flagship Samsung phone, where you get up to 25% better sound.

Sound. 7.73 With their proprietary codec, these earbuds meet the needs of music lovers and will please audiophiles. The earbuds have a bright and engaging sound! I appreciate the expressive mids, which bring vocals and instruments to the forefront. I also liked the detail retrieval and the spacious soundstage. On the downside, the highs are uneven, which in some tracks make the sound lack ‘airiness’ or add harshness. There’s a slight lack of truly deep bass – in busy tracks, this can affect clarity and soundstage depth.

Xiaomi Buds 6

Xiaomi Buds 6 are a copy of the last generation, except for a couple of things: better sound balance, less sensitivity to the source, and a more comfortable noise-cancelling mode. Controls and the mic are slightly better — at reference level — though the previous generation wasn’t worse. Everything else is unchanged or cosmetic, and battery life is actually a bit shorter. The voice recorder hasn’t changed, and there’s a translator for Xiaomi devices. That’s why the previous generation looks like the smarter buy — especially at the $120-160 price.

Sound. 7.44 Muffled with a lack of clarity across the entire frequency range. There’s enough detail to pick out main and secondary parts, but you have to listen closely for the rest. The strong point is naturalness, as it’s hard to spot sound flaws. Xiaomi Buds 6 land in the MyChooz bronze league for now. A couple of strong rivals, and the earbuds’ score will drop.

Xiaomi Buds 5 — Bluetooth TWS open-fit earbuds with a reference-level mic and a 3-hour voice recorder. With the aptX Adaptive codec, sound quality goes up 10-15%. With aptX Lossless, up to 10% more. The main downside: awkward squeeze controls.

The overall sound score is calculated using the formula:

7.67 We tested the sound on three phones. On MediaTek models, the emphasis is on bass, and the sound is slightly boomy bass. On Snapdragon – emphasis on highs, the sound is slightly sharp and embellished. In both cases, you can tune the EQ in the proprietary EQ. Vocals and musical instruments sound clean, pleasant and quite natural. There is a bit of artificial timbre in the highs. The soundstage is a little wider than the head. But the detail retrieval drops in tracks with a dense mix.

Nothing Ear open

Nothing Ear (open) are unconventional open-ear earbuds with an ear-hook design. They’re the ideal pick for sport, running, and other activities. The buds are comfortable, with signature design and a reference-level mic. Your voice stays isolated and clear in noisy places. They aren’t the best-sounding earbuds here — you’ll feel the lack of detail on the basic codec. But the mic is great, so for calls they’re an excellent choice.

Nothing Ear ( open ) microphone. 9.00 In quiet conditions: 9 In noisy conditions: 9 Clear, with minimal interference, the frequency range feels narrow. In noisy environments, the voice is isolated, and noise is effectively suppressed.

Features. 6.71 The earbuds lack active noise cancellation and a transparency mode. At the same time, they don’t create a tight seal, so you hear your surroundings as if you weren’t wearing earbuds. Battery life is close to the stated time; in our tests, it’s 6-7 hours for the earbuds and up to 30 hours with the case. The companion app is convenient, offering a minimum of necessary features, including an advanced EQ. Controls use squeeze gestures for the player and calls, with no accidental touches.
More details.
Build quality. 8.00 The earbuds are comfortable to use, with only slight discomfort due to the unusual design. Build quality and materials are top-tier. The only unpleasant thing is the fingerprint-prone coating and micro-scratches from the first days of use. The appearance is nice, like the whole earbud series, but there’s nothing new in the design and this look has become boring. 2 colors to choose from: white and blue.

Reasons to buy:
  • Quality sound for open-fit earbuds around $100
  • reference-quality microphone
  • Comfortable design with ear hook
  • Signature Nothing design
Reasons not to buy:
  • The sound might seem too bass-heavy.
  • Bulky charging case, 3 times larger than usual

Marshall Minor IV

Marshall Minor IV — wireless open-fit earbuds with good sound, made for people who prefer a non-bass tuning. The main reasons to buy: iconic design, premium build quality, and premium materials.

Sound. 6.93 The sound of Marshall Minor IV didn’t disappoint me, but it didn’t impress me either. It’s average. I didn’t get enough bass, even though I’m not a basshead and I’m taking into account the open-ear design form factor. Otherwise, you can get used to it. And after a few days of using them, I got used to the sound; it has its own unique character. If you’re not a bass lover, you’ll like this model.

UGREEN HiTune H6 Pro — the best wireless open-fit earbuds with active noise cancellation and Transparency mode under $40. A mid-range model with a near-top-tier mic and comfortable fit. LDAC is on board, but the sound improvement is less than 5%.

Sound. 5.21 The earbuds have a bass-heavy and somewhat muddy sound. Detail retrieval and natural timbre are average with the LDAC codec, and increasing the bitrate doesn’t affect sound quality at all. The soundstage has minimal depth, with sound mostly coming from a single point. So, these earbuds are better suited for background listening.
