ASUS ROG unveiled the Gjallar — a gaming soundbar with Dolby Atmos and a wireless subwoofer. ASUS has not announced the price yet.

ASUS ROG Gjallar — gaming soundbar with subwoofer and control hub

What’s interesting about the ASUS ROG Gjallar

  • Configuration: 2.1.2 with Dolby Atmos — 4x 50mm full-range drivers, 2x 27mm tweeters, up-firing channels
  • Subwoofer: 6.5-inch (~16.5 cm driver), 65W, wireless on 5GHz
  • Connectivity: HDMI 2.1 (eARC, 4K@120Hz pass-through), USB-C, optical, AUX, Bluetooth 5.3
  • Hub: separate control unit + microphones with echo cancellation (AEC) and AI noise suppression
  • Dimensions: soundbar 607x92x82mm, 2.4kg

Sound. The 2.1.2 layout with Dolby Atmos: four full-range drivers and two tweeters cover the front, while another pair of channels fires upward — the sound reflects off the ceiling and seems to come from above (that’s the point of Atmos). Bass goes to a separate subwoofer that links to the soundbar wirelessly over 5GHz.

HDMI 2.1 — why a gamer cares. A soundbar usually sits in the “console to TV” chain: the video signal passes through it. Many soundbars with older HDMI only pass video up to 4K at 60fps — run a PS5 or PC through one and you lose the high frame rate in games. The Gjallar’s HDMI 2.1 passes full 4K at 120fps: the picture from the console reaches the TV without being cut down. eARC sends uncompressed audio back from the TV.

Hub and microphones. The box includes a separate control unit and microphones with AEC (echo cancellation) plus an AI beamforming algorithm for noise suppression — ASUS positions this for voice chat in games.

Price. ASUS has not announced the price or release date yet. I’ll update when they do. Where the Gjallar lands — testing will tell.
