Edifier released the AIRPULSE A80V, an updated version of the compact A80 active speakers. The manufacturer redesigned the 4.5-inch mid-woofer, replaced the USB connection, and added a separate 3.5mm input. In China, the model went on sale on August 4th for $426 (2879 yuan).
What the manufacturer claims:
- Horn-loaded ribbon tweeter with an aluminum diaphragm — the manufacturer claims its high-frequency range extends up to 40 kHz
- 4.5-inch mid-woofer: cast aluminum basket, reinforced aluminum cone, 30 mm voice coil
- Power output of 10 + 10 W for the tweeters and 40 + 40 W for the main drivers — 100 W total
- Two Texas Instruments TAS5754M Class D amplifiers: one for the tweeters, one for the main drivers
- Nominal system range 52 Hz–20 kHz, signal-to-noise ratio of at least 90 dB(A)
- Digital signal processing up to 192 kHz
- Analog RCA and 3.5 mm inputs via Texas Instruments PCM1808 ADC (up to 96 kHz/24 bit)
- Optical input and USB-C using Savitech Hi-Fi USB Audio solution: digital inputs accept signals up to 216 kHz, internal processing is limited to 192 kHz/24 bit
- Bluetooth 5.1 on Qualcomm QCC3031 with aptX HD codec
- Main speaker is 140 × 255 × 238 mm, the second is 140 × 255 × 220 mm; the pair weighs 9.3 kg
They kept the basic build quality of the A80: compact MDF enclosures, ribbon tweeters, 4.5-inch drivers, and separate amplification for each band. The original model also had 100W power, and the claimed range was 52 Hz–40 kHz.
Why this is interesting. The A80V isn’t a completely new speaker, but rather a targeted upgrade of a successful platform: the ribbon tweeter and dual-amplification architecture remain, while the driver, Bluetooth, and USB have been updated. The main question is whether the new driver delivers deeper, tighter bass, or if the difference from the regular A80 is limited to the interfaces.
What’s not great. Analog inputs are digitized at up to 96 kHz/24 bit — there’s no fully analog path here. For digital inputs, signal support up to 216 kHz is stated, but internal processing is limited to 192 kHz/24 bit. Bluetooth only supports aptX HD: LDAC, aptX Adaptive, and Wi-Fi are not stated, nor is HDMI ARC, the app, or automatic room correction. There is no separate A80V page on the global Edifier website yet, so the timing for international release is unknown.
Price and where to buy. AIRPULSE A80V have been sold in China since August 4, 2026, for $426 (2879 yuan) per pair, in the official Edifier store on JD. The company has not yet announced the international price or global sales dates.
What we’ll check in the test. We’ll compare the A80V with the regular A80 at the same volume and measure at what drop the system reaches the stated 52 Hz, whether the bass level and distortion of the new mid/low-frequency driver have changed. We’ll separately check the USB-C, optical, and analog inputs, Bluetooth with aptX HD — and find out if the redesigned driver provides a noticeable advantage, not just a new model designation.
