Bang & Olufsen has introduced a new portable speaker: the Beosound A1 3rd generation. Compared to the previous generation, the woofer driver has been improved, the battery life has increased from 18 to 24 hours, and the aptX Adaptive codec has been introduced. The manufacturer offers a battery replacement service and a 5-year warranty. The new model can be connected in a stereo pair with the previous generation speaker. At the same time, the wireless speaker no longer features the Amazon Alexa voice assistant.
The Beosound A1 3rd Gen utilizes a sound system with two drivers from the previous generation – a 15mm tweeter and an 83.5mm woofer. Each driver has an individual 30W class D amplifier. The manufacturer has improved the bass driver for enhanced bass. Instead of the aptX codec, aptX Adaptive is used; the AAC codec remains. Potentially, the sound quality can only improve due to the codec with increased bandwidth. Perhaps, the new model will displace the previous generation in our ranking of the top 10 best mini speakers.
The wireless speaker has 3 microphones for use as a wireless headset. At the same time, the speaker no longer features the built-in Amazon Alexa voice assistant. The Bluetooth 5.1 version is unchanged. It features Multipoint, Google Fast Pair for fast connection to Android, Microsoft Swift Pair for fast connection to Windows, and MFI certification for Apple. The good news is that compatibility with the previous generation for stereo pairing has been retained.
The battery life has increased – 24 hours, up from 18 hours in the previous version. The manufacturer offers battery replacement service to extend the product’s lifespan. The case materials have not changed – featuring a plastic frame with aluminum casing. The IP67 rating is the same: full resistance to dust and short-term immersion in water up to 30 minutes at up to 1m depth. Available in three colors: Natural Aluminum, Honey Tone, and Eucalyptus Green.
