HUAWEI has unveiled the new FreeBuds 6i wireless in-ear headphones. The model features 11mm dynamic drivers, improved active noise cancellation system and improved battery life with a total of 35h.
What are the changes in the FreeBuds 6i compared to the FreeBuds 5i version?
- In FreeBuds 6i, the 11mm drivers are responsible for the sound. In FreeBuds 5i it’s 10mm. There is no information about codecs, but in FreeBuds 5i were – SBC, AAC and LDAC. Most likely in 6i will be the same.
- Active noise reduction has been improved, for it is responsible for a new algorithm Intelligent Dynamic ANC 3.0.
- Voice transmission has been improved, thanks to a system of three microphones and the work of the Deep Neural Network (DNN) algorithm, which filters the voice from ambient noise during a conversation.
- The FreeBuds 6i has a fresh version of Bluetooth 5.3, while the FreeBuds 5i had Bluetooth 5.2.
- The autonomy has improved a bit. 8 hours on the headphones themselves (was 7.5h) without noise canceling and 5 hours (was 6) with noise canceling. The case gives 35 hours of autonomy in total without noise reduction, with noise reduction – 20 hours (Was 28h and 18.5h). It takes 60 minutes to fully charge the headphones and 110 minutes to fully charge the case. (It was about the same).
- Controls are touch sensitive, which is important, there is volume control with up and down swipes like the FreeBuds 5i version.

- There is IP54 protection (dust and water splash protection).
HUAWEI FreeBuds 6i – release date and price
Huawei FreeBuds 6i will be available in white, purple and black body variants. In terms of appearance, FreeBuds 6i and FreeBuds 5i are almost identical.
However, the price of FreeBuds 5i at the start of sales was $100. Taking this into account, I assume that the price of FreeBuds 6i should be in the neighborhood of $100.
A quick summary of the HUAWEI FreeBuds 6i
HUAWEI FreeBuds 6i – wowed with increased dynamic drivers, improved noise cancellation, better microphone, and improved battery life. It’s definitely a minor update to the 5i model, but in almost everything the model has improved a bit.
Considering that the FreeBuds 5i, is a great model, the FreeBuds 6i has a good chance of being one of the best wireless headphones under $100. Competing with the Soundcore by Anker Liberty 4 NC, FiiO FW5, Realme Buds Air 5 Pro, and Galaxy Buds FE.
