On January 6, Realme launched new in-ear budget true wireless earbuds – Buds Air8. The wireless headphones were released on the Indian market together with two phones: Realme 16 PRO and 16 PRO+. All the new products share a common color scheme and the Bluetooth headphones and phones are designed by Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa. The main changes compared to the Realme Buds Air7:

• Case playback time increased from 52 hours to 58 hours.

Sound. The novelty received a new sound system. Instead of one dynamic driver at 12.4mm, a pair of dynamic drivers at 11mm and 6mm is used. There is a Bluetooth codec LHDC 5.0. Let me remind you that the last generation supports LHDC 3 and 5 codec. Perhaps the new generation will retain backward compatibility.

Active noise cancellation(ANC). As in the last generation, the headphones have 6 microphone arrays – 3 on each side. Active noise cancellation (ANC) suppresses noise up to -55 dB, instead of -52 dB. More in promotional materials mentioned adaptive active noise cancellation with individual Settings. Perhaps the manufacturer is talking about automatic noise Settings. Or maybe it’s about the personalized active noise cancellation function, which noticeably affects the noise in the same OnePlus Nord Buds 3 Pro.

Battery life. On the AAC codec, the headphones last 14 hours and 58 hours with the case. Battery life increased by 1 hour for headphones and 6 hours with case. On LHDC 5.0 codec – 5.5 and 22 hours respectively.

Features. Live translation and real-time translation, like last year’s Realme Buds Air7 pro. They promise 30+ languages. The translator works without being tied to the phone manufacturer via the companion app realme Link.

There’s now support for a Google Gemini-based voice assistant for weather updates or general advice.

In the companion app, you can also enable “Surround Sound” to expand the soundstage. And Dynamic Audio to boost lows, mids, and highs in real time.

Design and materials. Dust and water resistance – IP55: partial resistance to dust and resistance to water jets from any direction. The case material is presumably plastic, possibly with a Soft touch coating that resembles silicone.

Connection. Multipoint for three devices instead of two. Other features remain unchanged: Bluetooth version 5.4, MICROSOFT SWIFT PAIR for fast connection to Windows, audio latency up to 45 ms.

Price and Availability. The headphones are available in three colors: gold, purple and gray.

The headphones are available in the Indian market for now at a price of ₹3799 or approximately $42. It is scheduled to launch on January 16. Availability in other regions is yet to be announced.
