Sony has introduced the LinkBuds Open headphones, a new open ring driver device that allows users to hear ambient sounds while listening to music. This model is aimed at active users who find it important to remain aware of the external environment.
LinkBuds Open features unique 11mm ring drivers that allow sound to flow freely through the headphones without blocking the ear canal. The model is powered by a V2 processor, which is also used in the premium WF-1000XM5 headphones, promising high performance in sound processing. However, the headphones are not designed for full sound isolation, which may be a drawback for those looking for maximum audio detailing in noisy environments. The headphones support the Bluetooth 5.3 version and the SBC and AAC audio codecs.
Sony LinkBuds Open support DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) technology, which improves the quality of compressed audio files, although the LinkBuds Open are not equipped with an active noise canceling system. The V2 processor is responsible for stable connection and sound optimization, and supports voice control and multipoint up to two devices simultaneously. Battery life is about 7 hours, with the option to recharge in the case, increasing the total time to 25 hours. The device has IPX4 protection against moisture and sweat. Instructions on how to connect and use the headphones can be found on the company’s website.
LinkBuds Open are made in a lightweight and ergonomic housing with supportive elements for a secure fit in the ears. The weight of one earphone is 5.1g. The open design and ring driver make the headphones compact and comfortable for active use. The price at the time of release was $199.
