Ugreen has released the HiTune Max5s over-ear headphones, and on paper, the package looks impressive for this price: LDAC, active noise cancellation up to -45 dB, and an advertised 112 hours of battery life — initially around $25 in China. Given our experience with other Ugreen models — the Max5c is among our best under $30, and the Studio Pro in the best under $40 — the Max5s looks very tempting, and I will definitely get this model for a review. I am trying to figure out why they ask so little and what the catch is.

What is New Compared to the Max5c. The Max5s is an upgrade over the previous Max5c model: the battery has increased from 75 to 112 hours, Bluetooth is updated from 5.4 to 6.0, there are now five microphones for calls instead of two, and AI translation has been added. The driver remains the same — 40 mm, and LDAC is still here.
Sound Quality. LDAC for $25 looks tempting: usually, such a codec is put in headphones that are many times more expensive. But a codec is just the ceiling of capabilities, not a guarantee of good sound. How the 40 mm driver will sound in real life — the review will show.
AI Translation in Headphones. Such a solution is unusual for this class: the built-in assistant does simultaneous and dialogue translation and transcribes recordings, and Ugreen promises these features for free forever. How convenient this is outside of demonstrations is a question for real-world use.
How Much It Costs. Around $25 is the initial launch price in China. For the rest of the world, Ugreen sets it noticeably higher: on the European website, the headphones are priced at around $65 with a discount and about $75 without it.
