TOP 10 Ear Tips for In-Ear Headphones and Their Impact on Sound in 2026

20250918 093114

Ear tips are a detail familiar to anyone who takes music listening seriously. Their influence on sound cannot be denied: sometimes they change the presentation beyond recognition, expand the soundstage, or emphasize the bass. But how much can this influence be measured in practice?

To answer this question, I decided to conduct a study. I listened to ten different types of ear tips, compared them under identical conditions, and created my own rating.

The goal is simple: to show exactly how ear tips affect the perception of music and translate our usual impressions into more visual numbers.

After all, have you ever wondered why the same headphones sound different for different people? For one, the bass is deep; for another, it almost disappears. The secret lies in a small but extremely important detail – the ear tips. They are the key to fully unlocking your headphones’ potential. And this is exactly what we will test in practice.

This ranking is alive — models change places in it.

What’s important in ear tips?

Sealing is the foundation. Properly selected ear tips fit snugly in the ear, creating a vacuum that prevents sound from “leaking” out. It is thanks to this that you hear everything: from deep, rich bass to the smallest details in the highs. Without good sealing, the sound becomes flat and loses its volume.

Comfort is the second, no less important factor. If the ear tips press or cause discomfort, you won’t be able to enjoy music for long. Manufacturers experiment with materials – from soft silicone to memory foam – so you can listen to music for hours without being distracted by unpleasant sensations.

Material – each pair of ear tips has its own character. Some are made to make the sound warm and soft, others to add analytical clarity and brightness. By choosing them, you are not just changing the tips, you are tuning the sound to your liking.

JVC Spiral Dot FX9

JVC Spiral Dot FX9 are ear tips that don’t change the character of the headphones but allow them to fully reveal themselves.

Pros
  • Precise bass
  • Clean mids
  • Airy highs
  • Neutral sound
  • Spacious soundstage
  • High comfort
  • Wide compatibility
Cons
  • High price
  • Collect dust and earwax in the pores inside the canal.
Low frequencies +1 point. Bass becomes controlled and precise.
Mid frequencies +0.9 points. Mids sound clearer and cleaner. A noticeable improvement in the clarity and articulation of vocals and instruments is noted.
High frequencies +0.9 points. Highs become noticeably clearer and more open, without harshness or sibilance.
Detail retrieval +1 point. Details are emphasized, and the sound becomes “cleaner.” You’ll get more accurate positioning and a fresh presentation.
Soundstage +1 point. The width and depth of the soundstage noticeably improve. This is a very strong, almost fundamental change that makes the sound more spacious and voluminous.
Naturalness +1 point. The sound is practically neutral, without coloration. The emphasis is on the natural reproduction of the recording.
Sealing 9.5/10. The ear tips are soft, comfortable, and thanks to the spiral design, they improve sound diffusion, making the presentation cleaner and more natural, and a symbolic minus 0.5 points I deduct only for the critical importance of selecting the right size for perfect sealing.
Comfort 9.5/10. The ear tips provide a high level of comfort thanks to their hybrid silicone composition with SMP iFit technology, a soft fit, and an ergonomic shape that minimizes pressure on the ear canal, however I deduct 0.5 points because the silicone pores collect dust and earwax, requiring regular cleaning.

TANGZU Tang Sancai

TANGZU Tang Sancai are ear tips that help your headphones unlock their true potential.

Pros
  • Natural vocals
  • High detail retrieval
  • Maximum naturalness
  • Spacious soundstage
  • High comfort
  • Unique design
Cons
  • Incomplete isolation
  • Loss of bass density
Low frequencies +0.7 points. Bass becomes transparent and controlled, completely eliminating “cloudiness.”
Mid frequencies +0.9 points. Vocals sound natural and expressive. The ear tips drastically improve clarity and detail retrieval
High frequencies +0.8 points. Highs become airy and soft, completely eliminating distortion.
Detail retrieval +0.8 points. Articulation improves, making even the smallest nuances audible.
Soundstage +0.7 points. The space becomes noticeably wider and deeper.
Naturalness +1 point. The sound becomes maximally truthful, without any coloration.
Sealing 7/10. Thanks to the porous structure, the sound is open, natural, and airy, but 3 points are deducted for incomplete isolation from external noise and a slight loss of bass depth, making them less suitable for those seeking maximum sealing.
Comfort 9/10. Ear tips made of soft medical silicone with textured grooves distribute pressure evenly and adapt perfectly to the ear, providing comfort even during long listening sessions. However, 1 point is deducted because the sealing is not always ideal, especially during active movement or in noisy environments.

3.7–6 mm nozzles
Available sizes

These ear tips are a tool for surgical precision. The built-in metal makes the sound transparent and analytical.

Pros
  • Sound purity
  • High detail retrieval
  • Sparkling highs
  • Precise bass
  • Analytical
Cons
  • Cold sound
  • Not much "meat"
  • Not for all genres
  • Narrow specialization
Low frequencies +0.6 points. Bass will become tighter and more precise, which is a noticeable improvement. However, it won’t add power, which might be a compromise for some genres.
Mid frequencies +0.8 points. Vocals and instruments will become significantly cleaner and more transparent, as if viewed under a magnifying glass.
High frequencies +1 point. Maximum improvement. Highs will become sparkling and voluminous, but without harshness.
Detail retrieval +1 point. Absolute maximum. These ear tips will pull out all micro-details from the recording, including background noise.
Soundstage +0.6 points. The soundstage will noticeably expand, although it won’t become too deep.
Naturalness +0.5 points. They make the sound studio-like and clean, removing warm coloration.
Sealing 8/10. Sufficiently good isolation from external noise and minimal low-frequency leakage. Not absolute blocking, but a balance between comfort and effectiveness is maintained. Minus 2 points for incomplete isolation and slight loss of low frequencies.
Comfort 8/10. The ear tips are soft and comfortable thanks to medical silicone and a universal fit. However, minus 2 points is deducted because it’s not always possible to achieve a tight seal: sound leakage may occur during movement, affecting bass and overall fit stability.

DUNU S&S

DUNU S&S ear tips are designed to remove boundaries in sound. They detach music from your head, making it voluminous and alive.

Pros
  • Large soundstage
  • Clear bass
  • Lively vocals
  • Soft highs
  • No murkiness in mids
  • Bass control and weight
Cons
  • Get stuck in ears
  • Too much vacuum
  • Require selection
  • Not for micro-details
  • Not for bassheads
Low frequencies +0.4 points. Bass becomes fast and clear, which is a noticeable change. However, it might seem a bit lighter than you’re used to.
Mid frequencies +0.9 points. Vocals become slightly forward, but without aggression. Instruments don’t overlap, making them ideal for complex arrangements.
High frequencies +0.9 points. They become soft and clean, without harshness. This is a very strong, almost drastic improvement that makes highs more comfortable.
Detail retrieval +0.5 points. Details are well-rendered, but these ear tips don’t strive to pull out every micro-nuance. They focus on the overall picture.
Soundstage +1 point. This is their main trump card. The ear tips completely transform the soundstage, adding depth and width. They detach music from your head, creating the sensation that you are in the center of a spacious and well-organized stage.
Naturalness +0.8 points. The sound is very truthful, with a slight analog charm that adds warmth.
Sealing 8/10. The cylindrical shape of the tips ensures a snug fit and excellent isolation from external noise, but minus 2 points is deducted because excessive sealing can cause pressure and discomfort for some users during long listening sessions, and there’s also a risk of the tips getting stuck in the ear upon removal.
Comfort 8/10. The ear tips are made of flexible silicone and provide a good level of comfort, especially during extended wear. However, minus 2 points was deducted due to their ultra-tight fit and the need for careful size selection.

Their purpose is to make music comfortable and enjoyable for long listening sessions. They remove harshness, add fullness, and create a warm, “homey” sound that isn’t fatiguing even after many hours.

Pros
  • High comfort
  • Soft highs
  • Tight fit
  • Precise bass
  • No murkiness in mids
  • Bass control and weight
Cons
  • Moderate soundstage
  • Collect dust
  • Require cleaning
  • Not for sensitive ears
Low frequencies +0.5 points. Bass becomes elastic and controlled, removing “dirt.”
Mid frequencies +0.9 points. The ear tips completely solve the problem of harshness and indistinctness, making recordings
High frequencies +0.9 points. They make highs softer and more comfortable, completely smoothing out bad mixes.
Detail retrieval +0.5 points. There are enough details to better read information. These ear tips don’t create an analytical sound but noticeably improve overall readability.
Soundstage +0.5 points. The space becomes wider, but without miracles.
Naturalness +1 point. They create a warm, “homey” sound that completely solves the problem of fatiguing sound. This is their key, very strong advantage.
Sealing 9.5/10. Made of liquid silicone, ensuring a snug fit and excellent passive isolation. They are maximally sealed, making the sound cleaner and more detailed, and the bass more controlled. Minus 0.5 points: the fit is very tight, which may be uncomfortable for users with sensitive ears.
Comfort 9/10. Liquid silicone ear tips provide softness, a pleasant fit, and a secure hold in the ear even with prolonged use. The material is hypoallergenic and safe for the skin, and the absence of a separating band makes wearing even more comfortable. Minus 1 point — for the slightly sticky surface, which tends to collect dust and requires regular cleaning.

Divinus Prism Wide Bore

Divinus Prism Wide Bore are ear tips designed to add transparency and spaciousness to your headphones.

Pros
  • Spacious soundstage
  • Clear mids
  • Airy highs
  • Excellent fit
  • Secure hold
Cons
  • Moderate bass
  • Not for everyone
  • Collect dust
  • Require careful selection
Low frequencies +0.4 points. Bass remains controlled and restrained.
Mid frequencies +0.9 points. Mids become clear and expressive. Vocals and instruments gain improved articulation, which is a very strong, almost reference-level improvement.
High frequencies +0.7 points. Highs become more open and bright.
Detail retrieval +0.7 points. The sound seems cleaner and “more alive.” The perception of spatial nuances and fine details improves.
Soundstage +0.9 points. Due to the wide design, the sound becomes more voluminous and open. This is a very strong, fundamental improvement that allows the soundstage to “breathe.”
Naturalness +0.5 points. Tonality remains neutral, but with a slight emphasis in the upper range.
Sealing 8.5/10. The ear tips fit well in the ear, seal tightly, and effectively isolate from external noise. Minus 1 point — because due to the wide design, the bass loses some density compared to the original Divinus ear tips.
Comfort 9.5/10. The ear tips are soft, comfortable, and do not cause fatigue even during long listening sessions. Minus 0.5 points — for the need to carefully select the size and for the silicone coating, which collects dust and requires regular cleaning.

Final Audio Type E Silicone

Final Audio Type E Silicone ear tips are a classic of the genre. They are designed for those seeking a warm, balanced, and musically rich sound.

Pros
  • Dense bass
  • Rich mids
  • Soft highs
  • Universal compatibility
  • Wide size selection
Cons
  • Smoothed details
  • Moderate soundstage.
  • Imperfect sealing
Low frequencies +0.9 points. Bass becomes richer and denser. This is a drastic improvement that adds weight to the sound.
Mid frequencies +0.8 points. Mids gain warm richness. This is a fundamental improvement that makes music more expressive.
High frequencies +0.8 points. Highs are softened, losing harshness and aggression. This is a key improvement that solves the problem of overly bright headphones.
Detail retrieval +0.4 points. Details become slightly muffled in exchange for comfort and softness.
Soundstage +0.4 points. The soundstage remains moderate. It doesn’t become excessively wide.
Naturalness +0.8 points. The sound character becomes extremely natural and rich, without synthetic coloration.
Sealing 8/10. Soft silicone with a thickened inner layer fits well into the ear canal and provides decent isolation, but I’m docking points 2 points because the seal easily breaks during active movement, and minor sound leaks reduce bass depth and the overall sense of isolation.
Comfort 9/10. The thickened inner structure makes them comfortable and almost unnoticeable in your ears even with prolonged wear, but I’m docking points 1 point because they’re very picky about size – without a perfectly fitting option, comfort and fit are significantly compromised.

TANGZU Tang Sancai Noble

These ear tips are designed for you to hear music in its pristine form. They strip away everything superfluous and let the sound come alive.

Pros
  • Bass control
  • Lively vocals
  • High detail retrieval
  • Airy highs
  • Maximum naturalness
  • Spacious soundstage
  • Design
Cons
  • Light metal feel
  • Thickened core
  • Not for bassheads
  • Require careful size selection
Low frequencies +0.5 points. Bass becomes dense and elastic, but in genres with extremely deep bass, it might slightly lose power.
Mid frequencies +0.9 points. Vocals and guitars sound alive, with natural warmth. This is a very strong, almost reference-level improvement.
High frequencies +0.9 points. Highs become clean and airy, without harshness. They completely eliminate artificial overtones.
Detail retrieval +0.9 points. They reveal the smallest nuances of the recording, which is a very strong, transformative improvement.
Soundstage +0.7 points. The space becomes spacious and deep.
Naturalness +0.8 points. The sound becomes maximally truthful, without any electronic coloration.
Sealing 9/10. The ear tips provide a tight and stable fit to the ear canal due to the combination of flexible silicone and a rigid metal core, which helps maintain shape and improves fixation on the sound nozzle. I’m docking points 1 point for the porous silicone structure: it slightly reduces complete sealing, and during active movement or in noisy environments, minor sound leaks may occur.
Comfort 9/10. Soft medical silicone conforms tightly to the ear canal, and the metal core maintains shape and improves fixation. I’m docking points 1 point for possible discomfort during prolonged wear: the core slightly weighs down the ear tips and makes the fit less “invisible.”

Velvet Comfort and Relaxation

Divinus Velvet

Divinus Velvet ear tips are designed for those seeking a soft and relaxed sound.

Pros
  • Soft sound
  • Clear mids
  • Comfortable highs
  • Velvet texture
  • Exceptional comfort
Cons
  • Loss of nuances
  • Subjective coloration
  • Collect dust
  • Require careful selection
Low frequencies +0.5 points. Bass becomes more diffuse and airy. This is a noticeable change that removes excess energy but might seem insufficient for fans of dense bass.
Mid frequencies +0.9 points. Mids become clear and detailed, with a slight warmth. Vocals and instruments sound natural and comfortable, which is a very strong improvement.
High frequencies +0.8 points. Highs become softer and calmer, completely eliminating harshness. This is a very strong change that makes music ideal for long listening sessions.
Detail retrieval +0.4 points. Airiness of the sound improves readability, but fine nuances might get slightly lost.
Soundstage +0.7 points. Due to the more diffuse character, the soundstage becomes wider and deeper.
Naturalness +0.5 points. The sound acquires an unusual “velvet” hue.
Sealing 8.5/10. The ear tips truly provide a snug fit and excellent isolation, and the matte velvet surface with micro-embossing helps them stay in the ear and distribute pressure evenly. I’m docking points 1.5 points because with too tight a fit, they can press slightly and cause discomfort during long listening sessions.
Comfort 9.5/10. The ear tips are soft, velvety to the touch, distribute pressure excellently, and are almost unnoticeable in your ears even with prolonged wear. I’m docking points 0.5 points only because their surface is slightly “sticky” and attracts dust, so they need to be wiped more often to maintain their neat appearance.

KBEAR 07

KBEAR 07 ear tips subtly tune the sound, adding clarity and expressiveness.

Pros
  • Neutral sound
  • Hybrid construction
  • High comfort
  • Airy highs
  • Wide compatibility
Cons
  • Unstable sealing
  • Not for bassheads
  • Average soundstage
Low frequencies +0.4 points. Bass remains controlled and even. They don’t make it more powerful, just more focused.
Mid frequencies +0.7 points. Vocals become noticeably clearer and more distinct.
High frequencies +0.7 points. Highs become detailed and open, but not harsh.
Detail retrieval +0.6 points. Resolution improves, especially in the mids and highs. This allows you to hear more nuances and makes the sound airy.
Soundstage +0.2 points. There is a slight improvement in the soundstage and localization, but it is not drastic.
Naturalness +0.4 points. The sound becomes clean and transparent, but with a slight emphasis in the upper mids, which gives it a certain character.
Sealing 7/10. Medical silicone ear tips are really comfortable and generally isolate well, but my fit isn’t always perfectly tight – the seal fluctuates depending on the headphones and during active movement. Therefore, I deducted points 3 points.
Comfort 8/10. Soft medical silicone ear tips fit comfortably, the hybrid design with a rigid core helps them stay secure, and the choice of five sizes makes the fit more universal. But I deducted points 2 points because the seal isn’t always ideal during movement, and people with very narrow or wide ear canals might find it difficult to find a suitable size.

Conclusion

Well, it’s time to sum up. I won’t shy away from calling the legendary JVC Spiral Dot FX9 ear tips the rightful winner. They are the benchmark of purity and precision, which don’t change the sound character but allow it to unfold in all its glory. But, as you’ve noticed, the other participants in the rating are right on their heels. Each model has its own unique strengths that can be decisive for different listeners. Some value a warm and comfortable sound, others analytical precision, and some seek the widest possible soundstage. Gathering this data took a lot of time, but it was worth it. Now you have a detailed guide in your hands to help you make an informed choice.
