Apple is reportedly working on two different AirPods projects that will include cameras, codenamed B790 and B798, according to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. We don’t know the final commercial names or the exact differences between them yet.
Two Projects. B790 is apparently closer to production, with sources suggesting it could launch by the end of 2026. We’ve seen hints of it in iOS 27 code. While MacRumors speculated it might be revealed as early as September alongside the new iPhone, there’s no firm release date.
B798 was originally slated for 2026, but Bloomberg reported in June that issues with AI and Siri features pushed its launch to late 2027. On July 3, leaker Kosutami claimed the project was completely halted, though they didn’t offer specific details.
Don’t expect to take photos or videos with these cameras. Gurman believes they’ll be used to give Siri visual context about your surroundings for a feature called Visual Intelligence. Previously, Ming-Chi Kuo wrote about IR cameras that could recognize gestures and potentially improve spatial audio when paired with the Vision Pro.
Apple hasn’t officially confirmed any details about B790 or B798. Names like AirPods Pro 4 and AirPods Ultra are just speculation from the media.
Price and Availability. Apple hasn’t announced pricing. While Kosutami mentioned $249 back in February – the current price for AirPods Pro – Gurman anticipates a higher cost. No official forecast is available. The current AirPods Pro 3 retail for $249, and we have a detailed review of them.
