Bass in headphones refers to the low frequencies perceived by our auditory receptors. When selecting the best bass headphones, it’s customary to examine the low-frequency range of the frequency response graph (typically from 20 to 250 Hz). There’s little point in focusing solely on the frequency range numbers listed in specs (e.g., 16–20,000 Hz). What matters more is not where the frequency starts (usually 20 Hz or below, which we can’t even hear), but which parts of the range are louder or quieter. Bass in any low-frequency headphones intended for music should be in synergy with other frequencies and not create an excessively uneven frequency response.

If you can find a frequency response graph for the headphones you’re interested in, you can easily determine how bass-heavy they are. [ /alert]
